My previous blog about "What is Selfishness...and was Buddha Selfish?" gave me quite a few positive responses.
It came from various sources from friends, relatives, my Spiritual Gurus etc.
The ultimate point is selfishness starts where the world ends for us. Selfishness is about being self centred.
Buddha's journey was not to achieve for the self, but was to achieve something that will help others.
Buddha became the buddha because he did not think like a prince...he thought like a king who is concerned about his subjects.
Making money, taking care of family, doing charity are all but the temporary accomplishments that gives us a sense of happiness and contentment.
Buddha searched for a permanent solution...that of eternal bliss. He had the patience to know that he could do nothing without understanding the problem and his attaining Nirvana made him realize that the ongoings were but a part of the cosmic cycle and the sufferings of mankind stems out of the karmic cycle..
After he attained Nirvana, it would have been easier for him to merge into oblivion and be in his own trip of the eternal bliss, if he had been selfish...but it was his selflessness that brought him out into the world again, but this time unaffected, untouched by the sufferings that he felt had been brought upon the sufferer by himself.
His goal was not to change the world but to bring forth the experience that he had, and to tell the world that even they could achieve what he had...even they can get what he has....and that his achievement of Nirvana was a proof to the fact that " Ask...and you shall receive".
We all want to attain nirvana but not ready to let go of the rope that holds us to others and the hope that holds others to us.
NIrvana...is about letting go of the rope!
